about

A Rag-Time Skedaddle, by George Rosey, 1899; arranged by Louis Tocaben; from The George Rosey Standard Mandolin & Guitar Folio, 1904.

At the turn of the 20th century the marches of George Rosey (1864 – 1936) were as well known and loved as those of John Philip Sousa. This is certainly one of the best cakewalks of the 1890s. Popular recordings of it were made by George Schweinfest (on piccolo) and Vess Ossman (on banjo). George Rosey (real name Rosenberg) was one of the few composers to have an entire folio of their music published for mandolin and guitar.
